The cast of Star Trek: Picard had quite a journey in the season two finale, “Farewell,” and more than a couple of them, it seems, won’t be continuing on for the show’s third and final season.
Warning! Spoilers for season two of Star Trek: Picard lie below!
TrekCore did some social media research and put together a list of Picard characters who very likely won’t make an appearance in season three.
Rios (Santiago Cabrera) was an obvious one not coming back, since we left him back in 2024 at the end of season two. TrekCore also notes that he was filming The Flight Attendant when season three of Picard was shooting, which further supports his non-return.
Other characters not returning include Evan Evagora’s Elnor, even though Q brought the Romulan cadet back to life at the end of “Farewell.” The actor shared on Instagram that he wouldn’t be in the show’s final season either. Isa Briones, who played Soji and Kore this season, also shared on Instagram that this was her final run with the show.
Alison Pill, who ended up as a new version of the Borg Queen and a tentative member of the Federation, is also not coming back. This was a bit more of a surprise to me, given there’s a whole lot of story one could tell about her new brand of Borg. In a recent interview with MovieWeb, however, she said that she wasn’t part of season three and “will get to watch along with everyone else.” (That doesn’t mean, however, that she might not show up elsewhere in the Trek universe given she’s out there somewhere for 400 years of the franchise’s timeline and presumably beyond.)
Here’s what we do know about the cast of season three: We know that Seven (Jeri Ryan) and Raffi (Michelle Hurd) will at least make an appearance. Picard himself, Patrick Stewart, will obviously be there as well, along with the core of the original Next Generation cast including LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Gates McFadden, Jonathan Frakes, and Marina Sirtis. While we don’t have a release date yet for the third season, it will likely premiere sometime in 2023.
In the meantime, we can rewatch the first two seasons of Star Trek: Picard on Paramount+.
