Boruto is one of the most popular animes out there. It offers a sequel to one of the most beloved anime series ever which is why so many fans enjoyed it. However, despite its popularity, a portion of the fans was left disappointed since dubbed episodes were so far behind the series with the original Japanese voiceover. So when will the English voiceover be available and where will we be able to watch it?
The full English dubbed version should be available pretty soon since the only obstacle to its release was the current pandemic situation and the version will be available on many popular platforms such as Hulu, Vudu, and Funimation.
If you want to know more about why such a popular anime went on so long without an English voiceover version make sure to read this article all the way through since it offers a brief summary of what went down and a few different options for platforms that feature the dubbed episodes.
Why Is Boruto Dubbed so Far Behind?
Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is an anime series based on the same-named manga series. It’s the follow-up to the popular Naruto and Naruto Shippuden anime and manga series. What viewers should expect from the series is to learn what happens to Naruto’s beloved characters and their children’s futures.
Years have passed since Naruto and Sasuke fought Kaguya in the anime. Everything is now calm, and there are no more terrible villains to contend with. Despite the fact that this is a benefit to Boruto and his pals, Boruto just has one aim in mind. It is not to become a Hokage but to defeat his father.
The first episode of the series aired on April 5, 2017. The manga and anime are still continuing as of this writing. Crunchyroll, Hulu, and Funimation all provide free streaming of the anime series.
Despite the fact that the sequel is as much of an anime classic as both of the series which preceded it, one thing that you can’t find as easily is the English dubbed version. Given that so many anime watchers prefer dubbed anime, many fans were left wondering why wasn’t the entire series dubbed.
The answer to this question is much less interesting than what you may think. The dubbed version is so far behind due to the lack of management and involvement from Cartoon Network and a bit of licensing issues.
Boruto was originally dubbed by Cartoon Network since it also dubbed Both Naruto and Naruto Shippuden. All seemed to be going well at first since the dubbed versions of the series were being released pretty consistently.
However, after the entire first part was released, the episodes started being released further apart. Many fans were patient and understanding at the time since the process of dubbing an anime is pretty long and tedious especially if the results you want to achieve need to be higher in quality.
However, CN started dubbing the show and then dropped it in favor of Naruto Shippuden, which was pretty far back as well. The decision was never formally released, but the most logical explanation was that since Naruto Shippuden was released before Boruto and is chronologically taking place years before Boruto it should also be dubbed before Boruto.
Many seemed to have an issue with this decision and the direction CN was taking with the series. Naruto Shippuden was a popular series at the time, however, Boruto was much more popular and was released much recently than Naruto Shippuden.
To make matters even worse, Boruto has already started releasing dubbed episodes. This was making the series even more popular which in turn caused even more people to be disappointed with the fact that episodes were being dubbed at an increasingly slower pace.
Since this was so frustrating for the viewers many were revealed and pleased when the news that Adult Swim was taking over the dubbing process again. Since the process was now in the hands of an independent program under Cartoon Network, the process should go by a bit quicker.
