The live-action feature adaptation of Masters of the Universe officially has a He-Man. Actor Kyle Allen, who was recently in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, has been cast in the role.

According to Variety, Allen will play “an orphan named Adam who discovers he is a prince destined to be the savior of a faraway land. He must quickly learn of his power and the importance of saving his true home from an evil force.”

‘Masters of the Universe’ Movie Lands at Netflix, Kyle Allen Set as Lead

The live-action Masters of the Universe is directed and co-written by the Nee Brothers, who are also helming the very funny looking The Lost City starring Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Daniel Radcliffe. Mattel Studios and Netflix are backing the production, and they’re very excited about the project and having Allen on board.

Masters of the Universe is an iconic property that shaped the imaginations of an entire generation of kids with the message of becoming the best version of yourself,” Robbie Brenner, head of Mattel Films, said in a statement. “With our partners at Netflix, we look forward to showing audiences that anything can happen in Eternia. We are continuing to unlock this global franchise in new ways, and we can’t wait to see Kyle battle it out with Skeletor in this epic live-action saga.”

This isn’t Netflix’s first Masters of the Universe endeavor. The first was the animated show Masters of the Universe: Revelation, a two-part series helmed by Kevin Smith. The streaming platform along with Marvel Studios is also coming out at some to-be-determined date with a CG animated series, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, which will reimagine the ‘80s Masters of the Universe series and provide, according to Netflix, “all-new storylines and a fresh take on the iconic characters.”

No news yet on when the live-feature adaptation of Masters of the Universe will go into production or make its way onto Netflix. We don’t even know how much Allen’s costume will emulate the skimpy attire of the animated He-Man, though I’m sure he’s adding some extra crunches to his workout regimen, just in case.
