Branagh and Tom Bateman reprise their roles from the previous movie, while Annette Bening, Russell Brand, Ali Fazal, Dawn French, Gal Gadot, Rose Leslie, Emma Mackey, Sophie Okonedo, Jennifer Saunders, and Letitia Wright joined the cast.

The movie was originally set to be released in December 2019, but it was delayed several times due to the pandemic so its release date is now set on February 11, 2022.
