Infinity Ward Officially Announces Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022)

  • by

It’s that time of year when a new Call of Duty game is supposed to be announced, and Infinity War now officially revealed that the next installment in the long-running FPS franchise, as it was previously rumored, will indeed be Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which serves as the sequel to 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, which was a reboot to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy that Infinity Ward developed between 2007 and 2011.

Back in 2007, Infinity Ward released Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which was the first game of the franchise set in modern times. The game was a huge success and it redefined the FPS genre and the Call of Duty franchise as such. In 2009, the sequel Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released, and it was also a huge success, followed by the conclusion of the trilogy in 2011 with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

After that, Infinity Ward developed Call of Duty: Ghosts and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, but those games didn’t manage to achieve the success of the original MW trilogy, which is why Infinity Ward decided to go back and make a reboot of their most known trilogy.
