J. K. Simmons is quite the known name among both Marvel and DC fans. Simmons played J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy starring Tobey Maguire between 2002 and 2007, and his performance was so iconic that Marvel didn’t dare to cast anyone else but him in the same role in MCU. Simmons reappeared as Jameson in the post-credit scene of Spider-Man: Far From, and, as the official trailer confirmed, he’ll reprise the role in Spider-Man: No Way Home this December.

While he played JJ Jameson for soo-to-be five movies, he was pretty underused in that other comic book house, although he played one iconic role. Simmons was cast as Commissioner Gordon in the 2017 movie Justice League. He was set to reprise the role in The Batman movie starring Ben Affleck, but following Justice League’s box-office failure, that movie never happened and Simmons never got the chance again. Until now. Recently, Simmons was confirmed to return in an upcoming Batgirl movie, in which the titular role will be played by Leslie Grace. Simmons opened up about returning to the role:

“I was completely flabbergasted that they came back to me recently and wanted me to be Commissioner Gordon again, and have it be a more significant role, and I’m looking forward to it. I think I’m actually going to get on the horn with [star Leslie Grace] and the directors in the next couple days and do a little preliminary rehearsals. They start very soon, and then I jump onboard sometime in January over in Glasgow, which is a wonderful place to be shooting it because it’s, y’know, Gothic. I’m excited to be the once and future Jim Gordon.”
