Kim D. M. Simmons was the original photographer for Kenner in the 1980s for their STAR WARS toy lines including The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Power of the Force, Ewoks, and Droids.
But, by the end of 1985 Kenner’s original STAR WARS toy line came to an end – as did the need for more photos. It wasn’t until ten years later, in 1995, that Kenner (now under the umbrella of Hasbro) began releasing a new line of STAR WARS toys.
They were called The Power of the Force (not to be confused with the previous Power of the Force toys released in 1985) and they were the relaunch of one of the biggest toy brands on the planet.
Kim resumed his work as the sole photographer for Kenner/Hasbro’s STAR WARS toys and his photographs adorned toy boxes, action figure cardbacks, promotional booklets, in-store displays, toy fair catalogs, and more!
Kim was there to photograph it all. From the first run of original character figures, onto the Shadows of the Empire line (that accompanied the novel of the same name), The Kenner Collection line, and up to Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.
VOLUME 4 is the final book in the Kenner Star Wars Photography Series and completes Kim’s work with Kenner and Hasbro.
This final volume features photographs from all of the STAR WARS toy lines from 1994-2000. This includes classic characters such as Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, R2-D2, Boba Fett, and Darth Vader, as well as more obscure characters during that time period like Grand Admiral Thrawn, Prince Xixor, Dash Rendar, and Kyle Katarn. It also includes ships, creatures, and playsets that were released during those six years.
VOLUME 4 will continue the established tradition of being a beautiful hardcover book filled with striking, full-color, high resolution photographs, behind-the-scenes exclusives, and the largest collection of Star Wars Kenner/Hasbro photographs ever assembled for this time period from the man who shot it all himself, Kim DM Simmons.
