Today marks the final day of the 2021 LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar (#75307) and we take a look what’s behind today’s door. We also take a look at the Harry Potter (#76390) and Marvel The Avengers (#76196) calendars!
This is the eleventh year of the LEGO Star Wars Advent Calendar and for the first time we get a single themed calendar based around the Disney+ show The Mandalorian.
The final day brings us a festive version of The Mandalorian featuring an exclusive torso with a red festive scarf printed over Din Djarin’s armour. It looks fantastic but frustratingly the face of The Mandalorian is still represented by a black unprinted face, even though we have seen him unmasked in several episodes of the show.
As an added bonus, for the third year running we delve into the Harry Potter advent calendar which this year explores Harry’s journey from his aunt’s house to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, as seen in the first book/film the Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.
Day twenty-four brings us the spinner that allows us to play the game featured on the advent calendar packaging, taking Harry Potter from Privet Drive to Hogwarts. It is created from nineteen pieces and once spun it allows you to move forward or back on the game board.
There is another…. following the success of the Star Wars and Harry Potter Advent Calendars, LEGO have introduced a Marvel The Avengers Advent Calendar for the first time.
The final day of the first Avengers calendar brings us the infinity gauntlet worn by Thanos with all six infinity stones. Each stone comes on a sprue with four identical elements, and some of these can be connected to the gold pearl elements on yesterday’s Christmas Tree. The gauntlet can also be placed atop the tree.
Verdict on the 2021 Advent Calendars
The Harry Potter calendar continues to go from strength to strength featuring numerous printed elements and multiple minifigures, although getting the same torso three times seemed a little lazy but worked in the provided context.
The first Marvel calendar was also very good but could easily become repetitive since there aren’t too many locations or vehicles that could be built year on year and be easily recognised.
Unfortunately, the Star Wars version seems to have gone backwards. It features less minifigures than either of the other calendars, and has just two exclusive printed elements. It also has three weapon racks which we had hoped were a thing of the past plus some other lacklustre builds such as the interrogation droid and targets.
We applaud the LEGO Group for trying to theme the calendar to one source, The Mandalorian, but feel there were better choices for some of the days, without necessarily costing more to produce. We have created a list of what items we think could’ve appeared in a more balanced calendar, featuring the same number of minifigures as the aforementioned Potter and Avenger calendars, and you can read that article later this evening here on Jedi News.
