Forget “battle to the death.” Absolute Dominion, the next film from writer-director Lexi Alexander, offers a new prize to the winner of its martial arts tournament: fighters will battle for religious domination. In a future where the world has been ravaged by religious warfare, the powers that be decide to host a martial arts tournament to determine which faith will rule.
Alexander is precisely the right person to make this movie; she directed Punisher: War Zone (pictured above) and certainly knows her action, as she’s also a former World Kickboxing Champion. If you still have any doubts about how bloody the fights are going to be, well, Blumhouse Television is producing. It’s gonna get messy.
Absolute Dominion is already in production with a fascinating list of stars: Alex Winter (Bill and Ted Face the Music), Patton Oswalt (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Julie Ann Emery (Preacher), June Carryl (Helstrom), Oluniké Adeliyi (The Expanse), Regan Gomez (Queen Sugar) and Andy Allo (Upload) are among those cast in the film. Philip Tan, who’s had a long stunt career that includes work in Inception and Minority Report, is overseeing fight choreography.
According to a Las Vegas Review Journal piece from earlier this month, the production intends to film at a closed casino (called Terrible’s, no less!) in a small town in Nevada, which sure seems like a place that would lend a certain post-apocalyptic vibe.
