Sony Is Officially Going Forward With Oscars Campaign For ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’

  • by

Marvel is ready to try the chances with the most prestigious award in the movie industry again. It’s a known fact that MCU movies never really had any chances to win an Oscar except in some technical categories like the Best Visual Effects. The only exception was 2018’s Black Panther, which was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won three of them: Best Costume Design, Best Original Score, and Best Production Design.

Marvel also tried to promote 2019’s Avengers: Endgame for multiple categories, including Best Picture, but the movie was only nominated for Best Achievement in Visual Effects, and lost it to Sam Mendes’ war film 1917. After 2020 didn’t offer us any new MCU movies, Marvel Studios and Sony are ready to try their luck again in the next Awards season. The newest MCU movie Spider-Man: No Way Home is officially being pushed for the 2022 Oscars in all categories (that’s bold), including Best Picture.

Could Spider-Man: No Way Home Win an Oscar?

Spider-Man: No Way Home was released on December 17 and it grossed over $1.3 billion so far, which makes it the highest-grossing movie of the pandemic era, the highest-grossing movie Sony ever released, and the 12th highest-grossing movie of all time. The movie received critical acclaim, particularly for its fan service. Right now, No Way Home holds a score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes (audience score of 98%), and an 8.8 rating on IMDb.

Tom Holland played Peter Parker, the titular hero in his third Spider-Man movie and his sixth MCU appearance overall. The movie featured the return of five known villains from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy and Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man trilogy, respectively, as well as their respective Spider-Men, played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield.

Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: No Way Home now plays in theaters.
